FRIENDS OF SKOOTAMATTA, SHELDRAKE & PRINGLE
Lake Management Plan Committee
The
purpose of our Lake Plan is to:
Identify
and protect lake values
Promote community discussion and
action
Educate and communicate
Understand lake issues and
remedies
Recommend land use policy
Identify stewardship actions
The process is as important as the product. The plan is a community effort aimed at maintaining or improving our lake, the surrounding sub-watershed, and our lives and lifestyles.
It
will include:
A
'State of the Lake' report
Information on issues, remedies and
activities that support the environment, recreation , safety and
other aspects.
An 'Action Plan' for stewardship by the community
and recommendations to the Township
The
area we are planning for covers:
The
sub watershed area of Sheldrake, Skootamatta and Pringle Lakes along
with the creeks and streams that feed them.
These three lakes form a sub-watershed at the upper reaches of the Quinte Watershed that eventually flows into Lake Ontario
What
is our timing?
Year
1, 2008: Beginning the process, Survey Development &
Dissemination (460 Kb)
Year 2, 2009: Analyzing the Survey, The Information Collection Phase (3.9 Mb)
Year 3, 2010: Preparing the Draft Plan Phase
Year 4, 2011: Finalizing the Plan
Who
is involved?
Our
plan is being put together by a small group of volunteers from around
all three lakes, and with the participation of the entire lake
community through surveys and workshops, and specially assigned
tasks.
We are also being helped by a number agencies and community partners, such as the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of the Environment, and Addington Highlands Township & Quinte Conservation, particularly in providing and analyzing the information needed for the 'State of the Lake' section of the report. Additionally, Lennox & Addington Stewardship Council is helping us with advice, information and hands on help. WE have applied for grant funding that would help us in many ways and we await response. Watch here for news on that front.
