** Lake Level Decline Update ———————————————————— As noted in our previous POP, lake levels are currently well below seasonal norms. While Quinte Conservation has not pulled any logs from the Skootamatta Lake Dam, the lake level continues to decline and is currently close to levels usually attained after removal of logs following the Thanksgiving weekend.
The decline in lake levels is expected to continue as drought conditions prevail with minimal rain in the forecast.
Some cottagers have reported recent challenges removing boats from lifts and using boat ramps.
Please take the following precautions to help protect your boats, equipment, and the shoreline: * Check your boat’s position to ensure your boat is floating in a safe water depth and not resting on rocks or shallow areas. * verify that boat lifts are still operable and adjust as needed to avoid boats becoming stuck or damaged. * When out on the water, watch for emerging hazards such as rocky shoals, stumps, and sandbars, usually well below the surface. * When removing your boat be prepared to raise your lower unit more than usual near any of the boat ramps and adjacent the Trails End Wharf. * Please navigate slowly in nearshore areas to reduce boat wakes that can severely erode sensitive, newly exposed shoreline areas.
Thank you and safe boating!
