Private Fireworks Displays

We have recently received complaints about excessive noise on the lake, particularly about private fireworks displays. Although it can be fun to celebrate on the lake with a beautiful fireworks show, the following are a few things you need to be aware of before using fireworks:

In Addington Highlands Township there is an Official By-Law that bans the use of private fireworks. The only exemptions are for Victoria Day, Canada Day and Labour Day. Excessive noise at any time is also banned by this By-Law.

If you do choose to use private fireworks on one of the exempt weekends only, please do so at a time that is respectful of your neighbours. The private fireworks events that were brought to our attention were not on one of the previously mentioned holiday weekends. They occurred at midnight or later, which awakens and disturbs both humans and wildlife.

Thanks for helping keep our lake peaceful!
