SDRA Board Opportunity – Lake Steward

The SDRA is currently looking for a new Board Member to serve as the Lake Steward. The Lake Steward is a critical role for our association. In addition to serving as an active member on the Board, this role specifically focuses on the environmental protection efforts to preserve the health of our lakes. The Lake Steward must be a member (or family member) of the SDRA.

The key responsibilities of the Lake Steward role include, but are not limited to, the following:

–          Maintain a constantly evolving Lake Management Plan for our lakes, identifying and driving key environmental priorities, and setting the course to protect the health of our lakes for future generations

–          Ensuring regular bi-annual water testing and monitoring programs are in place to identify trends

–       Serve as the Board liaison with the FOCA Lake Partners Program

–       Monitor water levels and coordinate with Quinte Conservation Authority, as needed

–          Educating our members on environmental, property and boating best practices which protect the health of our lakes

–          Staying up to date on government programs available to ensure the quality of the environment is kept to its highest standard

–          Advising the Board on regulatory changes that may impact the local environment

–          Keeping apprised of forestry operations under the Mazinaw Lanark Forestry Inc.

–          Organizing programs and assembling volunteer members to advance initiatives at the lake

The ideal candidate will have a background in Environmental Sciences, Fish and Wildlife Biology or similar discipline.  Alternatively, if you come only with a willingness to contribute and a passion for the preservation of our pristine lakes and environment, we can help with training and resources.

This is a volunteer-based position on our not-for-profit Board, offering a unique opportunity to contribute and make a difference for future generations who enjoy our lakes.
