Camping on Public Land

The Ontario Government has issued an order prohibiting camping on public land. In the short term, this will address concerns we have had about campers around the lake. President Joel Arthurs is representing SDRA and several other lake associations on a discussion group with Addington Highlands. Hopefully, a resolution can be reached.

During the provincial lockdown, while camping on public land is illegal, the OPP have the authority to issue tickets for those contravening the law, if it is reported.

Further information on what is permitted in regards to camping on Crown land and what to do about violations will be reported in the newsletter.

Details regarding what is currently permitted on Crown land can be found at https://www.ontario.ca/page/recreational-activities-on-crown-land. This information will be updated after the lockdown.

Ontario Government: Recreational Camping Prohibited on Public Land

Under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, Recreational camping is prohibited on public land, including Crown land until further notice. This is to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus and protect the health and well-being of Ontarians.

This prohibition will remain in place until further notice. The Ontario Government will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate if further action is required.
