Boat Launch and Water Levels

With the ice having gone out in record time, and the enticing open water, many are eager to launch their boats. We want to provide members with the following update on Trail’s End boat launch repairs.

The SDRA has been in touch with the Township and have been informed that they have contacted officials at Quinte Conservation and the Ministry of Natural Resources. There is a process that must be followed when conducting work near the shoreline, including permits.

We continue to remind the Township of the urgency to repair the launch and the fact that it is the only official launch for Skootamatta.

Until such time as permits can be obtained and the repairs can be properly completed, use of the launch is not recommended and to do so is at users own risk.

We’ve also heard reports of low water levels this spring. The reduced snow pack from this winter has resulted in less melt entering the system. Quinte Conservation has been operating the dam nearly a month ahead of normal schedule, in response. Through ongoing communication, we’ve heard that the final log was to be placed in the dam this week, which should improve levels. The rest is up to the weather and hopefully we receive considerable rainfall this spring.

Thank you,
SDRA Board
