Lake Stewardship Update

With the ice officially out on the lake,  I encourage you to check out enhancements made to the SDRA official website!  A new tab has been added covering Lake Stewardship topics, including the ability to view current and historical water testing data, useful links to broaden your stewardship interests, and an invasive species tab to highlight the threat of Eurasian Milfoil.   https://www.skootamatta.ca/lake-stewardship/

With the discovery of Eurasian Milfoil in our waters last year, the SDRA has been busy collaborating with other organizations to plan the next steps.  Major efforts for 2024 will be scouting of the lake to determine the spread and growth of this invasive aquatic plant.

We NEED your help!

We are looking for volunteers to look for patches on paddleboards, kayaks, canoes or boats.  This scouting is best done late summer into early fall when the weed is most visible.  We are also seeking a drone enthusiast so that we can complete orthomosaic mapping of the weed patches.  This mapping is crucial for getting a baseline of EM infestation and applying for future government grants to battle invasive species.  If you are a drone operator who may be interested in helping out, or are interested in volunteering for scouting please contact us by replying to this email.

Thank-you,
