For those who don’t know me, my name is Bill Blake and I currently treasurer of the SDRA. My family have been long term cottagers on Lake Skootamatta and I am happy to have this opportunity to serve the lake community.

One of the important roles of the treasurer is to collect membership fees. This is a friendly reminder that we have not yet received several membership renewals to the SDRA for the 2020-21 year! If you have already paid and we have somehow missed you, please provide me with the details of when and how, so I can ensure our records are up to date.

Your financial support allows us to provide a variety of activities. Although the pandemic forced us to cancel the Lake Festival this year and Ron Nowell and Esther Demszak had to cancel their annual potluck, we have still been busy on your behalf. Our activities have included producing the annual newsletter, holding our first virtual AGM, the photo competition, our new Canada day photo competition and, of course, providing information emails about happenings of interest around the Lake, which we call Paul’s POPs.

With your support, we also provide an annual fireworks display. This year’s fireworks show will start at 8:30 p.m. sharp on Saturday, September 5th and will offer a fitting finale to the summer season.

The SDRA is a very active organization. In 2017 it received the FOCA (Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations) Achievement Award for excellence in membership engagement and communication! FOCA represents over 500 cottage associations across Ontario, so we were particularly proud of this recognition.
